Navid Sedaghati


Throughout his legal career, Navid has represented clients in significant matters across the Oceania, American, European and Asian continents. Possessing a wealth of experience in international law and with multiple overseas admissions as a barrister, Navid continues to maintain a truly global practice. Complementing his domestic practice, he accepts briefs to represent clients in legal matters, including arbitrations and mediations, in New Zealand, Singapore, England and Wales.

Navid’s client base has included some of the largest and most recognised corporations and brands, particularly in the fast-moving consumer goods, consumer electronics, engineering, information technology, intellectual property, telecommunications, shipping and maritime and oil, gas and mining sectors. He is highly experienced in conflict of laws matters and in any form of cross-jurisdictional commercial matter.

His far-reaching international capabilities and expertise has spanned a broad spectrum of matters, which has included the provision of complex legal advice to clients with respect to:

• cross-jurisdictional distribution agreements;
• intellectual property licensing agreements;
• manufacturing agreements;
• international trade and finance agreements;
• agreements with respect to the purchase and distribution of products;
• the establishment of managed funds internationally;
• domestic and international marketing;
• agreements with respect to the leasing, purchase and financing of mining, oil and gas equipment and oil rigs; and
• obtaining financial licenses, including Australian Financial Service Licences (AFSL).

Navid’s expansive international practice also extends to appearing in litigation on behalf of his clients. Notably, and by way of example, he previously acted for Panasonic Australia with respect to large-scale proceedings commenced in the United States of America concerning a major commercial conflict of laws dispute. He continues to play an instrumental role in resolving a multitude of other disputes on behalf of his clients, by way of litigation both domestically and internationally. He also has considerable experience representing clients in mediations and arbitrations, including mediations in which confidentiality and speed of dispute resolution is of utmost importance.
